Suitable for Bride, Bridesmaid, or Prom Queen

Pippa Middleton's elegant white bridesmaid dress would make an elegantly simple wedding gown. The clean lines and short sweep train are prefect for a bride who doesn't like pouffy, fluffy, fussy gowns. This dress would look good in any color, too.

If you want to make this dress, Butterick offers pattern 5710 as a reasonable facsimile of the dress from the royal wedding. It is a fully lined dress, fitted close to the body. It would be wise to first make a blouse or short dress from the pattern, perfecting the fit before committing to the construction of a gown.

The table below shows an estimate of the fabric costs for a size 10 long dress. Prices are based on Joann.com fabrics at the time of article publication. Of course for a wedding dress you may want to indulge in silk crepe de chine or fine wool challis; given the modest fabric requirements of this gown, the project is still quite affordable.

A dressmaker with intermediate sewing skills and some experience with special occasion fabrics should have no problem following the pattern directions and producing an elegant dress for any special occasion.

Thank you! I plan to try this pattern next time one of the ladies in my house needs a special occasion dress for a dance or recital.
