Basic Dress Pattern: One Pattern, Many Dresses
77A Threads Magazine Sewing Pattern
A Wardrobe from the Simplicity Threads Collection
Simplicity pattern 2455 is a fine collection of separates: sleeveless dress or top, jacket and pants. I needed some basic dresses, so I made the dress in two different fabrics. The first was a silky print. The second was a gray pinstripe.
Wear this trim dress with a jacket for an office look or alone for a bare-armed, Jackie Kennedy look. The dress has a zipper placket on the side--very retro! I did find the dress to be a bit too short for me, although I am just 5' 5. After making the silky dress according to the pattern, I added two inches to the hem when I cut out the pinstripe version.
Threads magazine has a number of patterns available through Simplicity. All these patterns offer classic style with some special designer details. Try one or two; you will find yourself using them more than once because of their versatility. For more information about great sewing resources, see this review of popular sewing magazines.

Great idea and fun patterns I love simplicity and enjoy my dress, but the wallet cannot meet demands of today's prices on dresses, this is a great way to build my wardrobe with some great styling dresses! Thanks for Sharing!
I sewed a lot in my teens and 20s, but haven't done much since then (other than linings for crocheted/knitted purses). These patterns make me want to try my hand at it again ... all I need is a sewing machine :-).
Informative article. I love the dresses you have shown.
